Layoff Notices

Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act Reports

What is the WARN Act?

The Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act helps ensure advance notice in cases of qualified closings and mass layoffs. The U.S. Department of Labor has compliance assistance materials to help workers and employers understand their rights and responsibilities under the provisions of WARN.

Learn more about these resources from the US Department of Labor.

Massachusetts WARN Notices

The Commonwealth of Massachusetts posts weekly updates of any notice of layoffs received. In some cases, employers are required to provide 60 days’ notice before a layoff. Massachusetts reports are divided into the following regions:

  • Boston
  • Central
  • Metro-Southwest
  • Southeast
  • Northeast
  • West
  • Remote/National

Visit Mass.gov to get the weekly reports and worker resources.

Other States

Nick Roman has created a list of states in alphabetic order and links to their WARN notification sites/files. The list will let you know when a company filed their WARN Notification (their intent to lay people off) and, in some cases, when they plan to lay people off. Some lists will tell you how many by job title.
