Design for Anxiety

Kevin Kupilas, Senior Product Designer at Hubspot

Anxiety is the uninvited guest during customer interactions with our products and can have a serious impact on their behavior and perception. While Product teams spend countless hours thinking about our customers’ desired outcomes, expectations and needs, we don’t always spend enough time examining the fears and anxieties that surround them.

“Designing for Anxieties” explores some common examples of customer anxiety, then presents three flexible frameworks that help us understand and solve for them, including Jobs-to-be-Done, BJ Fogg’s Behavior Model, and Onboarding. You’ll walk away from this session with a set of practical tools and a few easy first steps for you to start applying these principles to your own projects.

About Kevin

Kevin is a Senior Product Designer at HubSpot. For more than a decade, he’s been a designer at companies of various stages and sizes, including startups like RunKeeper and larger, more mature companies like PayPal. He’s in love with customer research, behavior change, and interaction design, and is always looking for ways to to help teams build more empathy and better understand the problems their customers face.
