UXPA Boston Board Nominee: Bhumika Shah
Biography
As a professor at Post University, I designed and taught a graduate-level Data Management course, where I equipped students with hands-on expertise in SQL, cloud-based data engineering, and data governance. I also mentor master’s students, guiding them to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world industry challenges.
Currently, I am pursuing a PhD in Information Technology at the University of the Cumberlands, where I am advancing research in big data analytics, business intelligence, and AI applications in healthcare. My research focuses on integrating AI and large-scale data analysis to predict chronic conditions and improve patient outcomes.
I am passionate about user experience (UX) and its intersection with data and AI. I believe that designing data-driven systems with a user-first approach is essential for driving innovation and ensuring adoption. My unique blend of technical expertise and teaching experience allows me to bring valuable insights to UX practitioners, helping them build intuitive and impactful data-centric products.
As a prospective board member of UXPA Boston, I am eager to contribute my expertise in AI, data engineering, and information governance to the UX community. I look forward to collaborating with fellow leaders, advocating for user-centered AI solutions, and helping shape the future of UX by bridging the gap between technology and human-centered design.
Why join the UXPA Boston Board of Directors
My work has shown me that data engineering and UX are inherently connected—the quality of a user’s experience often depends on how well the underlying data systems process, analyze, and present information in an intuitive and meaningful way. Whether it’s designing AI models that generate real-time insights or building scalable data pipelines, I believe that the success of these solutions is directly tied to how easily users can interact with and derive value from them. A seamless, user-centric interface built on top of complex data processes ensures that technical advancements translate into actionable insights and improved decision-making.
As a professor and mentor, I have guided students in understanding how to build data-driven systems that not only perform well but also prioritize the user experience. I believe that empowering professionals with this knowledge can lead to the creation of impactful solutions that balance technical excellence with usability.
Joining the UXPA Boston Board would allow me to bring this perspective to the UX community, fostering a stronger dialogue around how data engineering and UX can work together to create systems that are both powerful and user-friendly. I am excited about the opportunity to collaborate with other leaders, advocate for the responsible integration of AI and data into UX design, and help shape the future of UX by ensuring that data-driven systems are built with empathy and user-centered design principles.
