UXPA International, in partnership with MeasuringU, is excited to share the 2022 UX Salary Survey Results.
Data was collected from July 2021 through March 2022.
625 responses from 31 countries, with 72% of the responses coming from the US and 9% UK.
The median salary across all jobs is $109K, 15% higher than the 2018 UXPA report ($95K). But factoring inflation using constant 2021 dollars the median salary is about the same as it was in 2011.
The biggest factors that impact salaries are:
Where you live, US Northern California has the highest median ($179k) versus $95k in the US Mountain Region.
Job Level: Senior-level supervisors make almost 2x entry-level employees ($140K vs. $75K).
UX Managers make on average $150k, User Researchers $107k, Designers $115k.
Thank you to everyone participating in the survey and MeasuringU for analyzing the data and preparing the report.
Meet our Speaker: Ryan Rumsey
April 14, 2023
As part of our UXPA Boston’s monthly speaker series, we’re thrilled to have Ryan Rumsey as our April speaker.
His presentation, “It’s Time We Claim Our Collective Agency,” will provide designers with pragmatic ways to make business sense, challenge the status quo, and be the leader they want to work for.
It’s happening online on Thursday, April 20 · 6:30 – 8:30pm EDT. Attendance is free.
About the Presentation
There’s a gap. Can you see it?
We know we have valuable insights, yet we aren’t always heard in the ways we expect. We want to push for more human, societal, environmental, and communal value, but our colleagues lack some of the same enthusiasm or understanding. We fight hard for a seat at the table, but sitting there isn’t relieving our frustrations.
Changing how business decisions are made is the hardest problem for designers at all levels. To get there, we have to leave our comfort zones. We have to claim our agency as design leaders. This talk will provide pragmatic ways to make more business sense, challenge the status quo and be the leader you want to work for.

To celebrate the newly appointed president of the UXPA Boston Chapter, Jana Pantoja, the Vice President and Director of Chapters at UXPA International, sat down with Nick Di Stefano, to ask him our top 5 questions.
Nick Di Stefano, UXPA Boston Chapter President
1) Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m fascinated by the intersection of design, technology, and people. I’m a design lead with over ten years of experience. I am currently part of Humana’s Experience Center, an internal innovation and incubation team that believes the best care experiences are created when people come together.
I’m passionate about improving the lives of others and constantly looking to learn new things. My focus has been on helping organizations expand their capacity for impact by integrating design and people-centered practices into their digital and agile transformation efforts.
As a Boston native, community has always been important to me. I like to give back as much as I can with my free time, whether that means mentoring or volunteering.
Coffee is the best food group.
2) How did you get started in UX?
Becoming a LEGO master builder didn’t happen. I came into UX from a background in art history and public and installation art. Public art taught me how design impacts people and how they view their environment, each other, and themselves. Teaching sailing to people with various physical and cognitive abilities instilled an interest in accessibility and inclusive design.
I started with many “this is the internet” conversations and helped organizations reframe how they interact with people, translate or expand their experiences into a digital space, or use digital tools to enhance their in-person experiences.
3) What is most rewarding about working in UX?
I enjoy untangling complex systems and collaborating across disciplines to create measurable change. I’m passionate about building strong team cultures, creating thoughtful products, and advocating for DEI in tech. The best part for me is working through people and process problems to help drive positive change. I love learning about the different pieces of a problem space and how they connect.
4) What is the accomplishment you’re most proud of during your volunteering time at UXPA?
I’m excited to build connections with other organizations in our community to improve our impact and reach. I’m happy to launch our new chapter website so we can better provide information and resources.
5) What would you like to accomplish during your first year as the president of UXPA Boston?
I’m thrilled to start my term as the incoming president of the Boston chapter of UXPA. I intend to promote the values of UX and its related professions while striving to learn more about how our Boston chapter can empower a broad range of practitioners and teams. I plan to build bridges to other organizations in our community, continue promoting a more comprehensive range of voices in our field, and build more opportunities for mentorship and community-building.

World Usability Day 2023 Theme
March 16, 2023
The 2023 World Usability Day theme is “Collaboration and Cooperation.”
Our goal is to raise standards so that technology works to harness human potential. Every second Thursday in November, events occur around the world that brings together different communities to celebrate how we can make our world easy for all.
In order to solve the world’s biggest problems, we all have to work together. In 2023, we will focus on working together to create solutions, both globally and locally. Let’s connect our work to the big problems of our world and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGS)
We are excited to announce our 2023 theme of “Collaboration and Cooperation.”
Now, more than ever we have to work together to solve our world’s biggest problems. Let’s break out of our silos! In 2023, we will direct our focus to collaborations and cooperative work that produces real-world solutions, together.
The goal of the World Usability Initiative (WUI) is to connect the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) and the User Experience (UX) community and everyone who believes that great design is inclusive and usable by all, to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals by establishing World Usability Day as an internationally observed day, listed on the United Nations calendar. Help us achieve this goal!
Now for the second year, our partner, O’Reilly, is accepting applications for their diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice (DEIJ) scholarship program for 2013.
UXPA Boston, along with O’Reilly, believes that innovation depends on the contributions of people with a variety of perspectives. To help members of groups underrepresented in technology develop and sharpen the skills needed to break through barriers within the field, they’re offering 500 annual scholarships that give recipients full access to the O’Reilly learning platform. Learn more about the program here.
Who is it for?
The O’Reilly DEIJ scholarship is for those from groups underrepresented in tech who want to kickstart their career, upskill, or develop new skills. These groups include women, Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, and other communities of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans, and people with a physical or neurological disability.
How to apply
To be considered for an O’Reilly DEIJ scholarship, please submit your application on or before March 31, 2023.
You’ll be notified of your acceptance status by June 15, 2023.
Companies and their customers today often don’t focus on the same things.
While a restaurant may work hard to create an exciting new menu item, diners care more about courtesy. A bank will spend thousands promoting trust while customers struggle to access their website. This report explains how service design can help your organization innovate to deliver great experiences, not just great products, by understanding your customers’ needs. Service design experts Adam Lawrence, Marc Stickdorn, Markus HormeĂź, and Jakob Schneider explain that service design is a mindset, a process, a toolset, and a cross-disciplinary language. You’ll learn how cross-functional teams can create and orchestrate great customer or employee experiences that satisfy the requirements of the business, the user, and other stakeholders.
