A workshop by the design-driven software consultancy, DockYard 

Ever wonder what life at a digital design consultancy would be like? DockYard will show you the ropes of designing a holistic experience starting with research, prototyping, testing, and moving on through the nitty-gritty of visual design. (including mood-boarding, typographic selection, color selection, hierarchies, and information layout)

The workshop is an intensive six hour introduction to the life and role of a holistic UX Designer. You’ll leave with a solid understanding of the challenges designers face in their day to day, but also of the investigative qualities that make a great UX designer so valuable.

Who should attend?

This workshop is meant for researchers, designers or product managers that have some understanding of digital product design process, but want a borader understanding with a from-the-trenches point of view. 

What will you learn? A lot. 

  • Learn design, user and business research techniques
  • Learn what to prototype, when to, and how
  • Learn user testing techniques that you will carry throughout wireframing, prototyping and visual design
  • Learn to integrate mood boarding to your process
  • Learn best practices in typographic selection 
  • Learn how to select color and definte roles for them 
  • Learn information layout values and practices

About the Speakers 
Steve Trevathan: Partner, Creative Director at DockYard 
Steven’s design experience spans many years and mediums. He came from a background designing and editing book covers, operating printing presses for a short run book printer, and designing websites for local companies for cash. Since then he has lead teams designing applications for Fortune 500 companies, startups and everything in between. 
Ashley Treni: UX Designer at DockYard 
Ashley is an MFA candidate in Information Design and Visualization at Northeastern studying design methods, information architecture, and experience design. On the DockYard design team she is primarily focused on research, testing, and experimenting with design process. 
Logan Faerber: Lead Visual Designer & Illustrator at DockYard 
Logan graduated from the Montserrat College of Art with a concentration in design and illustration. Before joining DockYard he had pursued freelance illustration and co-founded Dobot with Steve. Now as a designer and illustrator at DockYard, Logan works on client projects and in house content alike: web design, mobile design, branding icons, typography, and print design.
