Evolution of the UX Capabilities: In-house vs. Consulting

Working as a UX consultant for the last 8 years, one of the biggest changes I have noticed over time is the evolution of UX capabilities on the client side. Through the 2000’s a majority of our clients had minimal exposure to User Experience as a discipline and looked to us as the sole authority in that domain.  Over the years more and more organizations have their own experienced in-house UX teams. As an agency, we often work in conjunction with these teams.

As both the in-house and consulting UX teams work towards similar goals on the same project, there can arise a sense of unclarity with regards to responsibilities and tasks. This talk is about how the 2 UX roles (In-house and Consultant) serve different purposes, how they are both essential for the success of a project and how we can capitalize on the unique strengths of each team for the greater good of the product or service experience.

 

Anandi Pendse | Experience Design Lead at Isobar

Anandi Pendse has been a User Experience Designer and consultant with Isobar for the last 8 years. During her tenure at Isobar, she has worked across a range of industries and clients including Enterprise rent-a-car, adidas, Motorola and McDonald’s. She holds a Masters degree in Human-Computer Interaction from Georgia Tech.

Getting There

We are in the offices above South Station. The entrance is on Atlantic Ave (cross street is Essex) and is called “One South Station” and has two doors with a hanging “1” sign on the outside. It is right next to the CVS entrance on the outside of South Station. We are on the 3rd floor.
